This Privacy Policy describes how Market Samachar collects, uses, and shares information when you use marketsamachar.in (the "Service").

1. Who we are

Market Samachar is a financial news aggregation platform operated from Hyderabad, Telangana, India. We surface headlines and short snippets from publicly available RSS feeds and provide virtual trading, quizzes, and rewards features for educational engagement.

2. What data we collect

• Authentication. When you sign in, we receive your email address, display name, and avatar URL via Supabase (our auth provider). We never see or store your password.
• Usage data. Anonymous analytics on news clicks, quiz answers, virtual trade activity, swipes, polls and shares, used to compute rewards and improve the Service.
• Cookies and local storage. A session cookie keeps you logged in. Your browser's localStorage stores language preference and small UI state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
• Referral tracking. When someone lands on the site with a ?ref=CODE link, we log an anonymous beacon (no PII) so we can pay the referrer. Click logs are retained for 90 days.

3. Why we collect it

To provide and operate the Service — delivering news, running the virtual trading and quiz features, paying out the coin economy, preventing abuse, and improving the product.

4. Who we share it with

• Supabase — authentication provider (email, name, avatar).
• Google Gemini API — AI summarisation of public news headlines and snippets. We do not send your personal information to Gemini.
• Yahoo Finance API — public market data lookups. No personal information is sent.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.

5. Your rights under the DPDP Act 2023

As a Data Principal under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request erasure of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
• Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
• Raise a grievance via our Grievance Redressal process.

6. Data retention

• Account data — retained while your account is active.
• Coin ledger entries (samachar_coins) — retained for audit and dispute resolution.
• Referral click logs — retained for 90 days, then purged.
• News content and AI summaries — retained indefinitely as part of the public archive.

7. Children

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has shared data with us, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date at the top of this page.
